The Lord is near to all who call him.  Psalm 145:18

Christ Church parish, whose beginnings can be traced to colonial times, was founded in 1702.  Just like Middletown, we have changed and grown.

Today we are two churches side by side.  Old Christ Church was constructed in 1836 around timbers of a previous church.

With requirements for expansion, the New Church  was erected in 1966.  We are built upon the "firm foundation" of Jesus Christ and our colonial heritage, with a commitment to serve God in the present.

We believe that we are a real community at Christ Church - a family  that seeks to  include all who would share in our life together in Christ.  We would like you to join us!  And to help you understand who we are and  what we do together, we offer you this site along with our sincerest welcome!  Christ Church is accessible to disabled people.

In 2002 we celebrated our Tercentenary year--that's 300 years of preaching the gospel right here on Kings Highway!  Read about the recent  Restoration of Historic Christ Church.  The Historic Church was re-dedicated by The Right Reverend George E. Councell, XI Bishop of New Jersey on Sunday, May 6, 2007.

Parish Mission Statement

The mission of Christ Episcopal Church in Middletown is:

to worship Almighty God,

to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ,

to live in witness to our faith and

minister to all the love of God.

God’s love is manifested at Christ Church in many ways through:

providing worship, prayer and music to inspire and guide our individual ministries,

serving and ministering to those in need in our local and worldwide communities,

nurturing and disciplining the spirit of members of all ages,

support and encouragement of one another within a caring fellowship of Christian community, and

supporting the programs of the Diocese of New Jersey, promoting growth of the Episcopal Church and encouraging Christian unity.

We invite you to share in our mission.  We rejoice in your presence with us and pray that you will be blessed through your life here, as together we go into the world to love and serve the Lord.

Ministries at Christ Church

Parish Long Range Objectives

The following objectives are established as a guide toward fulfilling our Parish Mission Statement.  Together, they reflect our continued commitment to involve people in using all that God has entrusted to them in carrying out this mission, continuing to define and to become God’s stewards.  Implicit in each objective is a process of evaluation, need assessment, parishioner commitment and communication to:

establish a comprehensive program to support our youth in their personal and spiritual lives and incorporate them more fully in pursuing the mission of  Christ Church,

invite and welcome new persons to Christ Church and to encourage their membership through effective communication of our mission, activities and life together in Christian community,

effectively assimilate new and existing members into fuller participation in the life and mission of the parish,

provide for spiritual growth for all ages through an educational program that teaches the content of the Christian faith and its application in everyday living,

raise the standard of maintenance of the physical plant and grounds and to make improvements needed to support various ministries,

increase significantly the level of parish resources devoted to outreach activities beyond our immediate parish family,

identify, nurture and support gifts of pastoral care in all our members, and

increase awareness of ourselves as stewards who have received God-given gifts for use in our ministries.

Christ Church has been designated a Jubilee Center by the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church in America. In his congratulatory letter, The Rev. Canon Carmen B. Guerrero, National Jubilee Officer wrote, "It is a genuine pleasure to welcome and affirm your place among the very special and select group of Jubilee Centers who are committed to a ministry that reaches out to the poor and oppressed…We are enriched in the Jubilee Ministry Network by your being a part of a ministry that connects you in this significant network of challenge, encouragement, and partnership…"

Jubilee Ministry came into being in 1982 as a result of a resolution adopted at the 67th General Convention. This ministry, made up of a nationwide network of Jubilee Centers, is committed to aid the poor, the powerless, and the vulnerable. As a Jubilee Center, Christ Church will serve the National Church as a source of information for other churches who are interested in getting involved in outreach projects like ours.
